What Are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a customized cap that can restore a weak or damaged tooth. At North Trinity Dental, we offer the highest quality crown materials, including zirconia and e-max. We are also happy to create gold crowns upon request. Dental crowns are most commonly used for the following purposes:

  • To repair a chipped, broken, or worn tooth
  • To restore a severely decayed or damaged tooth
  • To relieve pain resulting from a cracked tooth
  • To complete a root canal procedure
  • To cover an implant or support a dental bridge
  • To improve the size, shape, color, or appearance of a tooth

What Is the Crown or Bridge Process?

The first step in your crown process is reshaping the affected tooth to accommodate your restoration. Similarly, we will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap to support a fixed bridge. The next step is taking impressions or digital scans of your prepared teeth to create a mold that our partner dental lab will use to create your restoration. Meanwhile, we will place a temporary crown or bridge to protect your prepared teeth.

During an upcoming appointment, we will secure your new crown and bridge to your prepared teeth and make any adjustments needed for a comfortable bite. Your new restoration will leave you with a beautiful, healthy smile you’re proud to show off every day.

How Do Dental Bridges Work?

Dental bridges are fixed oral prosthetic devices that literally “bridge” the gap left by one or several consecutive missing teeth. To outfit you with a dental bridge, we place crowns on the two natural teeth adjacent to the space known as abutment teeth, with replacement teeth known as pontics in between.

What Are the Benefits of Restoring Your Smile with a Dental Crown or Bridge?

Dental crowns and bridges offer many advantages for patients with damaged or missing teeth, including the following:

  • Our high-quality restorations are fully customizable to match the color, size, and shape of your natural teeth.
  • Your new crown or bridge will restore your ability to chew with comfort, speak clearly, and smile with confidence.
  • A crown can preserve a tooth that may otherwise need extraction, safeguarding your smile.
  • A bridge can prevent your teeth from shifting toward the gap, preserving the alignment of your teeth and bite.
  • Your new crown or bridge can last many years with proper care and maintenance.
